Job Description

ASC is seeking Work Health Safety and Environment (WHSE) professionals to join our team across various submarine build, sustainment, and capability programs. These roles are critical to the successful delivery of complex defence projects and offer the opportunity to contribute to Australia’s national security.

Responsibilities

 

Broadly, depending on your role and level of experience, you may:

  • Support or lead the execution of ASC’s WHSE strategy, systems, and action plans.
  • Deliver WHSE risk reduction initiatives, including risk assessments and high-risk activity reviews.
  • Facilitate or oversee incident investigations using best-practice methodologies (e.g., ICAM).
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans, teams, and training.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to build WHSE capability and a proactive safety culture.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor WHSE performance, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Represent WHSE in forums, committees, and deliver effective communications and training.

 

About You

 

You’ll bring a passion for safety, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to influence outcomes across all levels of the organisation. Depending on the role, you may have:

  • Relevant qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, environmental science, emergency management, or related fields (Certificate, Diploma, or Tertiary depending on role level).
  • Strong understanding of WHS and environmental legislation, standards, and risk management practices.
  • Experience in WHSE roles within large complex organisations, or high-risk environments. Defence, civil or commercial construction, oil, mining and gas, engineering or similar industries will be highly advantageous.
  • Experience with high-risk activity management and incident investigation methodologies (e.g., ICAM).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Project in particular); experience with WHSE systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and influence stakeholders to drive cultural and behavioural change.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across diverse teams.
  • High level of integrity, resilience, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

 

Eligibility

 

These roles require a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

 

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
